The section west of the Columbia River is known as the Iron Horse Park State Trail, maintains the state parks department’s trail coordinator Randy Kline. Now the state says name causes confusion between the western and eastern sections of trail. You visit the BART Station in Dublin and Pleasanton and cross the I-580 until you enter some of the new residential and business projects in Dublin and Pleasanton. The world becomes residential once more, as the road cuts through Dublin. The road separates the golf course and provides protection from stray golf balls. The San Ramon Golf Club will be hit second. If you first follow the trail, you cross the Bishop Ranch Business Park on the east side ofI-680 and walk it for about 2 miles. Just past the station, there is a nice area with outdoor cafes with a view of the trail. The old South Pacifical Depot, the only original depot on the line, is located near the edge of Railroad and Prospect Avenues. The trail goes right after the shopping center of Danville. In this portion, much of the trail has a dirt road next to the paved bike path. From here the trail passes residential areas, crosses roads several times, while traffic is typically low, and provides easy access to shops and restaurants. South of Walnut Creek.Ī parking, a drinking fountain, benches and tables are included in the staging area. On Rudgear Road, the trail passes on the west side of the freeway underI-680. Bike and peat bridges extend through Treat Boulevard in the congested area of Walnut Creek, between Pleasant Hill BART and Ygnacio Valley Highway. Here’s about half a mile from the path of the Walnut Creek BART station. The city, especially near downtown Walnut Creek, is becoming ever greater residential as you go south. The northernmost section of the trail covers a marshy field, a refuge for ducks and ganses, as well as the region around Suisun Bay. Picnic tables, a drinking fountain and banks are available at a rest stop across the street from the BART parking lot. The road is about mile 5 from the Pleasant Hill BART station. The trail starts at the present north end just south of State Route 4, adjacent to the northeast corner of the Concord Buchanan Field Airport. In the north, the route to Suisun Bay in Martinez is expected to start.

The road to Stanley boulevard in Pleasanton is to be expanded further south where an existing bike path leads east to Livermore.

This popular and widely traveled route parallels Interstate 680, beginning at the north end of Concord to Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Alamo, Danville, San Ramon and Dublin, before terminating at the north east end of Pleasanton. It runs through calm residential quarters, busy business and shady greenbelt districts. Now it connects two districts and 12 cities with the Iron Horse Trail. By 2003 the DMU line would be used.Īs part of the agricultural and ranching past of the San Ramon Valley, the area around the Iron Horse Regional Trail is very historious.
